Everyone from the check-in staff, the Robot Game queuers, the referees, the judges, on up to the tournament directors volunteer their time. Anybody can make a great volunteer. Volunteers do not need to be an expert in everything FIRST LEGO League. If you’re interested in lending a helping hand, head over to the Volunteering page.

We would like to thank Atlas Technologies, Inc. for being the presenting sponsor of the Hydro Dynamics season in South Carolina.

Additionally we would like thank Bosch, Santee Cooper, and SPAWAR Systems Center- Atlantic for their support of the South Carolina FIRST LEGO League East State Championship.

Due to the expected low number of teams requiring overnight accommodations, we have not made arrangements for discounted rates at nearby hotels. The accommodations listed below are only included because of their proximity to the event venue.

Below is the general tournament schedule. Times are subject to change but they should be near the below stated times. Teams will receive a detailed schedule a few days prior to the event.

The Robot Game is free and open to the public. Practice rounds begin at 8:30 am with the official Robot Game rounds beginning at 12:45 pm shortly following the opening ceremonies. The judging portion of the event is closed to the public. In fact, only team members, coaches and the historian will be allowed into the judging section of the tournament. Thank you for respecting this policy. Please remember to respect the team only areas: the competition floor area (the area where teams queue and compete) and the judging area.

The official host for this year’s tournament is Waccamaw High School. They have done a wonderful job of arranging a number of food options for the event,

  • Teams can pre-order Chick-fil-A, Subway, or pizza box lunches using these forms (FLL Food Team Order and FLL Team Member Order Form). Teams can pay for the lunches at team check-in.
  • Waccamaw High will be selling concession style snack foods during the event.

We ask that you do not bring in outside food, dietary restrictions withstanding. Waccamaw High School has agreed to waive their usual venue rental fee in return for the opportunity for Waccamaw High to fundraise through food sales.

In preparation for the West State Championship event we’re soliciting information on team members that are graduating from the FIRST LEGO League program along with nominations for Coach of the Year. We’re also collecting unique stories that the emcee may share with the crowd during the competition.

Coaches are asked to submit this information by filling out this Google form.
