This page lists the South Carolina FIRST LEGO League event schedule for the 2018 Into Orbit season.
Please check back regularly for additions and updates to the schedule.
A Kick-Off Celebration is an early season, kid-centric event designed mostly for existing FIRST LEGO League teams. Kick-Off Celebrations tend to be held for a few hours at a special venue such as a museum, zoo, or other public location. During the event teams are shown the new season’s Robot Game missions, are instructed about the Project requirements, and teams are connected with potential professionals related to the season’s theme. The purpose of a Kick-Off Celebration is to get teams excited about the new season and to share any new information related to competing in the FIRST LEGO League.
Most Coaching Workshops are training sessions that introduce new coaches to all four aspects of competing in the FIRST LEGO League (Project, Core Values, Robot Design Judging, along with the Robot Game). Some more advanced or specialized Coaching Workshops focus on a particular aspect of the program.
A Challenge Academy is a mid-season event in which teams come together, share ideas, and network with each other. During a Challenge Academy, the host venue runs simulated Robot Game matches using nearly the same standards as an official FIRST LEGO League tournament event. The host venue also provides opportunities for teams to receive feedback on the various judging areas. Challenge Academies are designed for teams to demonstrate Gracious Professionalism and Coopertition prior to an official qualifier event by sharing their mid-season accomplishments and learning from their future competition.
Teams directly register themselves for a qualifier of their choice. To hold their spot at the event, they must pay the $75 event fee at the time of registration ($78 if paying by credit card.)
Teams can begin registering for qualifying tournaments starting at 10:00 am on Saturday, September 22.

30% of the top performing teams at each qualifier are invited to participate in one of two South Carolina State Championship. Which state championship a team is invited to participate in depends on which qualifier they attended. To event fee for a state championship is $100 ($103 if paying by credit card.)
While the exact dates for the upcoming Into Orbit season are not finalized, we do expect to hold the state championships in December.
